5 reasons LeBron owns Lakers with Magic Johnson gone
By Jason Cole
4. Hire a players coach
Again, LeBron is a verified coach killer who has little patience for anyone who is either attempting to learn on the job or unwilling to do exactly what LeBron thinks is best. That’s why Walton has been dangling by a thread since roughly the second week of the season. Word out of Los Angeles is that Walton and his staff were expecting to be fired after the game last night, but Magic’s resignation put a crimp in that plan. But only a temporary delay. Barring a miracle, Walton is gone.
With all of that in mind, there’s little question that LeBron, particularly at this stage of his career, wants someone who is completely pliable and who understands him. Lue shoots to the top of that list in a hurry with Kidd a fairly distant second. The advantage is that Lue actually has some Xs and Os expertise when compared to Kidd, but neither is really going to get in LeBron’s way and that’s how LeBron will want it.
Of course, there are other candidates who can fill a coaching role that doesn’t require a tremendous amount of personality or power. What you can probably dismiss out of hand is LeBron pushing for anyone who might stand up to him. While some people may venture to guess that LeBron could make a push for Miami’s Eric Spoelstra, the reality of that is unlikely.
