WWE NXT UK preview, April 10, 2019: Watch online
By Jeremy Klein
The dust has settled on WrestleMania weekend, and following a truly excellent Takeover: New York, we have a new United Kingdom champion. What will NXT UK look like under the very large thumb of WALTER? Let’s look ahead to this week’s episode.
Yes, in a fantastic match contained within an entire evening of fantastic matches, WALTER ended Pete Dunne’s historic reign as WWE United Kingdom Champion. It was an absolute war that saw the Ring General topple The Bruiserweight after powerbombing him from the top rope and then crushing him with a mammoth splash.
Last week, Jordan Devlin cornered management backstage to complain about WALTER being gifted a title shot, and said he would be watching the UK title match at Takeover very closely. Now that WALTER actually won though, does Devlin still want to stake a claim to the title? If so, he better quit calling WALTER “an oversized baby.” That’s really not the kind of comment you want to me making about a man with hands the size of your head.
Piper Niven — who it seems people are calling the most dominant woman in NXT UK despite her never competing in a match there — is set to have her debut match for the brand. Clearly, all of this is building towards an eventual match with Rhea Ripley. In a backstage interview last week, Radzi Chinyanganya for some reason asked Ripley if she thought Niven was the most dominant woman in NXT UK, over herself. Ripley was of course pissed off at this, for one because she doesn’t seem to like when people ask her questions unprompted, and for two because Niven hasn’t even wrestled on the show yet. She then vowed to make Niven’s dream of being in NXT UK her worst nightmare.
Travis Banks cut a promo calling out Kassius Ohno for being a bitter forum troll. Ohno has rolled into NXT UK on a high horse, telling everyone they don’t know enough about British wrestling to be considered “British” wrestlers. Well, Travis Banks has seen the seminal video of two blokes grappling on the moors by the fairground, he watches it every night before he goes to bed. Banks may be from New Zealand, but he has just as much a right to be in NXT UK, to be a part of British wresting, as anyone. Plus, how can Ohno say he is better than Banks, when the two have never even wrestled before? Sound logic, and the two will look to settle who is better and who is more British despite not being from Britain, this week.
At last, the fighting words surrounding the NXT UK Women’s Championship will spill into the wrestling ring. You know, where fighting happens. Jinny attacked Toni Storm backstage while she was giving an interview last week, throwing her into those dreaded road cases that people get thrown into when they’re getting beat up backstage at a wrestling show. The time for talk is over. No more talk over who does or doesn’t care about Toni Storm. Time to show who does or doesn’t care about Toni Storm, by caring enough about Toni Storm to figure out how to beat Toni Storm for the NXT UK Women’s Championship.
