2. IF Isaac Paredes

Paredes was signed by the Chicago Cubs in 2015, and in the midst of his first full pro season (2017) he was traded to the Tigers at the trade deadline. Between High-A and Double-A last year he hit .278 with 15 home runs, 70 RBI, 28 doubles and an .815 OPS, including a worthy showing in Double-A (.321/.406/.458 slash-line over 39 games). He then played winter ball in Mexico, driving in 23 with more walks (26) than strikeouts (23) over 179 plate appearances.

In five games to start this season for Triple-A Toledo I(entering Wednesday), Paredes has a .316/.417/.526 slash-line with seven RBI.

Paredes played shortstop (74 games), second base (24 games) and third base (21 games) last season. Limited range may push him toward the latter two positions going forward, and four of his five games so far this season have come at the hot corner.

Defensive versatility, even the perception of it, will help Paredes find a place in the big leagues. But his advanced prowess with a bat in his hands, assuming it continues, will be what gets notice. The Tigers may have to find a spot for the 20-year old this year.
