1. Johnathan Abram
Abram is not going to make anyone in Seattle forget about the departure of Earl Thomas. He is, however, the best safety in this year’s draft. That makes him a prime target for the Seahawks near the end of Round 1.
When you watch Abram’s college tape he pops off the screen with his physicality. He isn’t the biggest defensive back in the world, but he throws his body around in a big way. SEC receivers were always hesitant to extend themselves over the middle when they played against Mississippi State.
The only knock in Abram as a player is his lack of ball skills in the deep third of the field. He’s almost certainly going to be limited to strong safety at the next level. The good news for the Seahawks is that he’d provide the team an immediate upgrade over Tedric Thompson at that spot.
Next. 5 players the Panthers may draft in Round 1. dark
In an ideal world the Seahawks would like to trade down a few spots and still be in a position to scoop Abram up. That might be a little too ambitious. If Seattle really thinks Abram can step in and start right away, they should take him with the No. 21 selection.
