Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top MLB DFS Value Plays – Sunday April 14th
Daily Fantasy Baseball is in full swing, and whether you play on DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo, or Fantasy Draft, this article is designed to help you find the best value plays across the board for today’s slate. These low salary targets are my top players to help you roster your stud bats and pitchers.
Welcome to FantasyCPR! If you are a regular reader, welcome back for baseball! If you are new we are glad to have you, and we certainly hope you make us your first source of your Daily Fantasy Baseball research everyday. We will have plenty of articles every day here, and no matter where you play, we are likely to have you covered.
What separates us from others, is that we have a solid team of writers all tackling different areas to write about. This allows us to hone in our content, and you give our best plays possible, as early as possible. We are without a doubt the leader in first-look articles for DFS, so if you just found us, welcome, and I hope you come back for more.
While most of our content is site specific, whether it be for hitting or pitching, this article is going to be different. What I will do here, is evaluate potential value plays for that particular day, across the four major DFS sites.
So the plan of attack here is, first I will highlight my top value plays for Yahoo and Fantasy Draft. I will dig up certain plays that I think fit their scoring systems, and possible flaws in pricing. I will then do the same for FanDuel, and then for DraftKings.
Finally after I break down my favorites from each site specifically, I will then finish up with top overall multi-site value plays. These are the top players viable across the industry, who are in line to out produce their respective salary, no matter what the site. All of these plays are just simply the best value plays that stand out across the industry, regardless of site.
Yahoo is using the full fifteen game slate as its main slate today. The other three sites have an eight-game main slate starting at 12:05 CST. Therefore, today’s Sunday version of Top MLB DFS Value Plays will just focus on Fantasy Draft, FanDuel, and DraftKings.
Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – FantasyDraft
IF – Gleyber Torres – New York Yankees – $8,300
Getting some exposure to some Yankees on Fantasy Draft today is not extremely difficult, as the heart of the order is all priced below at $9K or below. I personally think Aaron Judge is a lock versus lefty Carlos Rodon at his price, and I will likely follow suit here with Luke Voit, and Torres, as I like this three-man stack here at home.
Torres has faced Rodon just three times in his young career, and so far has one hit, which was a home run, along with two walks and two runs scored. The Yankees are banged up, and if they want to win some games at home they will need this youngster to step-up in his new clean-up role, and have a big today against the lefty.
Torres is way too expensive on FanDuel, and there are better options at the SS position on DraftKings today. Here with on Fantasy Draft with the flexible positioning, this sort of cheap Yankees stack is exactly what I am looking for today. I will likely be paying up for pitching on both two pitcher sites, so we will need to dig a little deeper for our next pick.
OF – Billy McKinney – Toronto Blue Jays – $5,700
I have to say, the Blue Jays offense looks historically bad. Vegas odds have finally caught up, as this team has struggled to have an implied run projection of over 4 for a few straight days now. Tomorrow the Jays will host the Rays and Charlie Morton under a likely closed roof with inclement weather expected.
Morton is still a great pitcher, and McKinney is not hitting well to start the season, no matter where he hits in the lineup. He is expected to lead off again, and at under $6K, I am going to take a shot that he can find his way on base this afternoon. With the lack of mid and low tier pitching options, on guy down here in this price range is exactly what I need to fire up Jose Berrios and Max Scherzer.
Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – FanDuel
1B – Steve Pearce – Boston Red Sox – $2,700
Pearce is just 1-for-10 to start the season for Boston in three games, as he was recovering from injury to start the season, and still primarily a right-handed power bat that will only crack the lineup against left-handed pitching. With the Red Sox facing young Orioles lefty John Means this afternoon, Pearce should grab a spot in the lineup in favor of Mitch Moreland.
The Sox continue to struggle as they dropped the series opener to Baltimore 9-5 yesterday. They were able to get to Andrew Cashner a bit in the fifth, but overall offensively, this is a team just waiting and needing to break out. I like the way their lineup should set up tomorrow, and Pearce along with our next target make for a nice start to a four man stack with either Mookie Betts or J.D. Martinez.
2B – Eduardo Nunez – Boston Red Sox – $2,200
Nunez will still occasionally get a start against a righty unlike Pearce, but with Dustin Pedroia finally back on the diamond, you would have to think the opportunities for Nunez will be getting slimmer if he does not find his solid form he has been in at the plate over the last two seasons for the most part.
Nunez has started just once in the last three games, so as always, you will need to confirm he is in fact in the lineup, but he very well should be with Means on the hill. He is hitting just .200 thus far this season and is yet to leave the yard, but in his last start two days ago, he did go 2-for-4 with a couple of RBI’s. If he can get me double-digit FDP again, that will work.
Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – DraftKings
OF – Curtis Granderson – Miami Marlins – $3,400
Moving to DraftKings, the first thing I notice today is that I have to pay up for two pitchers. This has been tough to do with tight pricing on DK in the early goings this season. However, over the last week or so, things are starting to open up a bit, and we are getting some value plays worth talking about in the mid-$3K range.
Today I am starting with the value I am seeing on the Marlins, and that starts with lead off man and seasoned veteran Curtis Granderson. Grandy can’t hit it like he used to, but he still has the ability to go yard as he has proven with two home runs this season, and he will helped out with some gusty winds blowing out to center in this game.
The Phillies will have Vincent Velasquez on the mound, and he is getting some serious Vegas love, and will likely be on the radar of some for that SP2 spot. I just do not think Velasquez is as good as this line and 3.6 Marlins implied run total suggest, so I have no problem using the Grandy Man for some much needed value.
I would much rather roll with Berrios and Scherzer or Charlie Morton here than mess with the pitching at the bottom, and I need an outfielder down here in this price range. Grandy and the Marlins offer a great source of value, and even though this is a team of very average hitters, Velasquez has proven himself as very average pitcher at best.
OF – Adam Eaton – Washington Nationals – $3,900
Another lead off guy here, at under $4K, Eaton always feels a bit too cheap. The Nationals will host the Pirates and will face their ace in Jameson Taillon, but this is another spot where we could see some gusty winds to center field. Eaton is coming off of a 3-for-4 game, in which he connected on his first home run of the season.
After a slow start, Eaton is now hitting .286, with that one home run and five runs batted in. Pairing up Eaton with a streaky Brian Dozier at the top of the Nats lineup looks like it could be a go-to source for value around the industry this afternoon.
Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – Across the Industry!
Welcome to the most important, and final page of the article. On most days, certain value plays will line up well on 2 or three, or even all of the sites covered in this article. From the looks of it, I have a piece of every player coming up here on at least two sites in my early lineups, so just because you did not see somebody yet on another site specific slide from earlier, he could be coming up right now.

SS/2B/3B – Scott Kingery – Philadelphia Phillies – ($3,500 DK, $2,000 FD, $6,800 FantasyDraft)
I am not sure if he will start again so we will have to confirm this Phillies lineup today. Cesar Hernandez is off to a terrible start so we are starting to see more of Kingery, but Hernandez has decent history against Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena, so I am not exactly sure what to expect here. If he is in the lineup, I am locking him in for salary relief everywhere.
Kingery was a highly touted prospect with high expectations, but is still yet to pan out. If he can get hot and stay in this lineup, he could be in a great spot with all of his new teammates and this supporting cast. Kingery is 5-for-6 in his last two starts with two doubles, and with my eyes on some other Phillies today as well, I will likely be turning this into a stack for tournament play.
Now we need to talk about positioning. Kingery is a SS on FanDuel and the bare minimum price of $2K. In my opinion, that makes him a better play here than on DraftKings due to depth at each position listed. Speaking of DraftKings, Kingery has dual position eligiblity, as he is playable at 3B or 2B, but not shortstop. Of course on FantasyDraft he is an infielder, as they have that exact dilemma all figured out.
2B – Brian Dozier – Washington Nationals – ($3,500 DK, $2,500 FD, $6,700 FantasyDraft)
It is no secret I love me some one and two hole hitters on the cheap. Anytime you can get a decent hitter who is guaranteed four plate appearances and likely five for a little cheaper than you think he should be, you should take a good look at it. Today I need value bats like no other with the lack of value pitching, and even though Dozier’s hot streak was snapped with an 0-for-4 yesterday, I am going right back here.
When you look at the series Dozier just had against the Phillies, it is hard to believe his numbers on the season while glancing at those at the same time. He went 5-for-14 in that series, with his only home run, and five runs scored. However, on the season, Dozier is hitting just .163 with that one homer, and just that one run batted in. I don’t put much into small sample sizes of BvP, but for those interested Dozier is 1-for-3 with a homer in his career against Taillon.
That is all for today’s edition of MLB DFS Top Value Plays. I hope you like the format, as I think this is the best way to talk about which value bats and pitchers to consider, no matter what site you play on.
