Barcelona return to Camp Nou holding a 1-0 lead over Manchester United. The valuable away goal could prove to be the difference in the quarterfinal draw. Barcelona have not advanced past the quarterfinal since winning the Champions League in 2015. United will need to score at least two goals if they are going to advance to the semifinal. The Red Devils have not advanced to the semifinal since 2011 when they lost the Champions League final to Barcelona.
Barcelona have only lost four games this season and only twice since the calendar flipped to 2019. The Spanish giants were held to a draw in their last La Liga game against Huesca after Ernesto Valverde decided to play only a couple of his regulars. Neither Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez played and the extra rest should only help both players. Messi has been incredible again this season, scoring 43 goals and adding 21 assists in 41 games across all competitions. Suarez has 23 goals in all competitions but is still looking for his first Champions League goal this season. If Barcelona can score a goal on Tuesday, it will only make United’s task harder as they will have to score at least three goals.
Manchester United have slowed down following the incredible surge after firing Jose Mourinho. Since eliminating Paris Saint Germain, United have lost three of their last five games. The Red Devils defeated West Ham 2-1 over the weekend, with Paul Pogba scoring both goals. Pogba will have to be the best player on the field if United are going to advance to the semifinal. The French midfielder leads all United players with 16 goals in all competitions.
