- High School: Mount Juliet
- Composite Ranking: No. 28, No. 3 WDE
- Interested Programs: Alabama, Clemson, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee
When it comes to collecting five-star recruits on defense, Alabama is like a mom obsessed with beanie babies in the late 90’s. However, these recruits for the Crimson Tide provide far more dividends than those stuffed animals ever did.
Reggie Grimes should be just one of many five-star recruits that joins the Crimson Tide next season. One of the top defensive end recruits in the nation, the Mount Juliet product is going to be a force at getting after the quarterback.
He’s an explosive athlete that ran a 4.58 40-yard dash and can get after the quarterback in a hurry. At 6’4″ and 225 pounds, his frame allows him the versatility to stand up as well as playing with a hand in the grass.
Grimes will have room to fill out on his frame without sacrificing any athleticism. It’s going to be tough for running backs to get past him with his edge speed and he’s going to have no problem getting sacks. His size might be an issue against bigger offensive lineman initially, but as he continues to get stronger he should be even more impactful.
Alabama is going to need some depth at the defensive end spot in its upcoming classes and Grimes should provide just that. He’s going to make a name for himself on Saturday’s with each sack in conference play.
