2019 NFL mock draft: Bengals draft Drew Lock to replace Andy Dalton
By Brad Weiss
The Cincinnati Bengals have a new head coach in 2019, as they fired Marvin Lewis after a 16-year run that yielded not a single playoff win. While Lewis was certainly a solid head coach during the regular season, he could never get over the hump in the playoffs, and they will now turn to a rookie head coach to help the team do just that.
Zac Taylor is from the ever-popular Sean McVay coaching tree, and the Bengals are hoping they can get the same production from him that the Los Angeles Rams are getting from McVay. Last season, Taylor served as the quarterback coach for the Rams, helping to grow Jared Goff, and leading the Rams to a spot in the Super Bowl.
As he enters his first year as a head coach, he has a solid quarterback in Andy Dalton, but he may want to use his first ever first round pick on his own guy. With both Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins off the board, Drew Lock from Missouri should be the next man up in terms of quarterbacks taken this April.
Lock got better ever season for the Missouri Tigers, and has the mind, and arm to make all the throws at the NFL level. The Bengals look to be an organization that is starting to turn the page, and in Lock, they could allow the young signal-caller to sit behind Dalton for at least a year, before turning the team over to him.
