5. 351-day US Title reign

During his initial run with The Shield, Ambrose would secure his first singles title when he defeated Kofi Kingston for the United States Championship. His title-winning victory at Extreme Rules in May 2013 would be the start of a one of the longest US Title reigns in history.

It was the first bit of gold for The Shield and it solidified their dominance as a faction. Having Ambrose as the first of the trio to hold a title put the spotlight directly on him as the possible breakout star of the group.

Ambrose’s first title defense would come on the heels of the Extreme Rules event when he defended the title on an episode of SmackDown. Ambrose would retain his title but lose the match via disqualification due to interference from his Shield companions.

Three days later on Raw, a rematch against Kingston saw Ambrose retain once more. He continued with a string of victories over the likes of Kane, Rob Van Dam and Dolph Ziggler. Although The Shield was instrumental in many of his victories, the fact remained that Ambrose’s run as US Champion was proving very successful.

The ”Lunatic Fringe” managed to hold onto his US title for 351 days, marking his as one of the longest US title reigns in history, before he was defeated by Sheamus during a Battle Royal for the title on Monday Night Raw.
