1. One last Shield run

The Shield — Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose — have had a remarkable run in the WWE. Their legacy as one of the greatest factions in WWE history will stand the test of time. It was fitting then that the three of them would have one final match together before Ambrose left the company.

The road to get to this reunion was filled with tumultuous ups and downs underscored by the real-life battle with leukemia that Reigns had to face. During Reigns’ time away, the WWE saw fit to have Ambrose and Rollins entangled in a heated feud. Unfortunately, the feud fizzled before it got out of the starting gate. Frustrated with the creative direction of his career, Ambrose gave his notice. But then Reigns returned and announced to the world he was in remission and he made it clear he wanted to ride with his Shield brothers one last time before Ambrose stepped away.

All of this has been a mix of reality blending with the scripted world of the WWE. The truth of it lay in the fact that the men behind the characters of Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns are real-life brothers in arms. So when Reigns spoke of wanting that last match, Joe Anoaʻi meant it too.

The Shield would come together at WWE Fastlane to face the team of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin. As the featured main event of the night they did not disappoint. Coming together in their classic black pants, boots, and vests, the three men made their iconic entrance through the crowd and put on a memorable showing. If this truly was The Shield’s last match it made an impact. And even if it wasn’t — the trio is slated to reunite at “The Shield’s Last Chapter” on the WWE Network on Sunday — it was certainly the most emotionally-charged of The Shields recent, “final” reunions.

Will Ambrose really leave the WWE behind? Only time will tell.
