WWE NXT UK preview, April 17, 2019: Watch online
By Jeremy Klein
The Tag Team Champions are in action against the hottest tag team on the brand. Let’s take a look ahead at the April 17, 2019 edition of NXT UK.
WALTER dethroned Pete Dunne at Takeover: New York. Toni Storm retained against Jinny on last week’s NXT UK. Now, it’s time for the NXT UK Tag Team Champions to step into the ring and prove their worth (in a non-title match).
The Grizzled Young Veterans haven’t competed together since Zack Gibson had his eardrum blown up by Oney Lorcan, and the champs have a chip on their shoulders. Gibson has been yelling for two weeks straight about how he and James Drake are overlooked and under appreciated, in spite of the gold currently around their waists. To be fair to him, they do get jeered mercilessly every time they show their faces — on their arses or not — in an NXT UK ring.
So, Gibson and Drake have issued a challenge: Any team in NXT UK who think they can hang with the champs can attempt to do so, in a non-title match. Answering that call is none other than Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams, currently the hottest tag team under the NXT UK banner. Folks, these two are streaking.
The duo have grown both as a team and as friends over the last handful of episodes, defeating increasingly difficult opponents. Their Cinderella rise through the ranks culminated in a shock-win over The Wrestlefascists (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) two weeks ago. Williams still will not dance for Jordan, but maybe he’ll rhythmically snap his fingers or something if they manage to knock off the Tag Team Champions this week.
The only other bit of preview for this week comes courtesy of the WWE Network’s listing for the episode. It states, “Rhea Ripley targets Kacy Catanzaro.” What exactly this means is unclear, though seeing as this is a wrestling show, it probably means a wrestling match of some sort. Ripley certainly seems the type to want to destroy her smaller, more athletic counterparts, so going after Catanzaro feels quite on-brand for her.
One last ting that doesn’t qualify as a “preview” for this week’s NXT UK, but certainly qualifies as “noteworthy”: WALTER and Pete Dunne are having their rematch. This weekend, during the NXT UK TV tapings at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, the Bruiserweight and the Ring General will once again square off, with the United Kingdom Championship at stake. For those able to attend: It should be another awesome match. For everyone else: Something to look forward to in the future. Yay, anticipation!
