Fantasy Baseball 2019 Week 3 Mid-Week Waiver Adds
By Bill Pivetz
Here are some players you should add to your fantasy baseball team to finish week 3 strong.
The fantasy baseball season continues to roll on. We’re almost done with week 3. If you are behind in your matchup or are looking to make up a few roto points, there are players you should look to add before the weekend. Whether it’s due to injury or poor performance, your fantasy team could use an upgrade at certain positions.
In the player list I’ve provided, I have one infielder, one outfielder and two starting pitchers to highlight as solid waiver wire adds. All four players are owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues. If I’m going to make a waiver wire post, it’s important to have players widely available to owners and not players owned in close to 50 percent of leagues.
The fantasy baseball value of these four players is on the rise. If you are in need of a boost, don’t wait to add these players to your team.
Scott Kingery – 6.6 Percent Owned
After receiving a big contract extension, Kingery disappointed in his first season. This year, however, is a completely different story. He is hitting .480 in 25 at-bats. He will get more playing time while Jean Segura deals with a hamstring issue.

Since April 13, Kingery has nine hits, including four doubles and two homers, with six RBIs and a .529 average. Kingery and the Phillies head to Coors Field for a series against the Rockies. Hitting in Colorado should lead to continued success for Kingery.
The Phillies lineup is arguably the best in the league and Kingery is doing his part.
Melky Cabrera – 2.5 Percent
Cabrera is taking advantage of his playing time. The Pirates are without Corey Dickerson, Lonnie Chisenhall and Gregory Polanco are all on the IL, leaving plenty of spots open in the outfield.
Cabrera has been manning right field and hitting either fifth or sixth for the Pirates. He is hitting .333 with seven hits including a home run, one RBI and two runs scored over the last seven days.
Cabrera is a target for those that need help with batting average or on-base percentage. He doesn’t have much power but can get on base and score.
Brett Anderson – 21.7 Percent
The 31-year-old veteran is off to a nice start this season. In four starts, he has a 2.63 ERA, 1.208 WHIP, 14 strikeouts and nine walks. Anderson has a 3-0 record with three quality starts.
Anderson isn’t a big strikeout pitcher, a season-high of four strikeouts in a game. Control could be an issue as well with nine walks in 24.0 innings.
Anderson makes his next start on Saturday at home against the Blue Jays. Toronto is hitting .215 with 68 runs scored this season. It’s a good matchup for Anderson.
CC Sabathia – 12.0 Percent
Sabathia returned from the IL for the injury-riddled Yankees. In his first appearance this season, he pitched five shutout innings with one hit and three strikeouts. The Yankees are managing his usage and with the bullpen they have, I don’t blame them.
Sabathia makes his next start on Friday against the Royals. I don’t buy into the little surge the offense had against the Indians, scoring 20 runs in three games. For example, they scored just nine runs in the next series against the White Sox.
The Royals don’t have the best offense, so Sabathia should be able to pick up his first win.
The waiver wire is looking thin so short into the season. However, depending on your league size, it could be better than others. Better jump on these players now before you’re scrolling to page five on the waiver list.
