Joel Embiid may have ‘cut one loose’ at Barclays Center

While Joel Embiid was in street clothes watching his 76ers dismantle the Brooklyn Nets, he may have “cut one loose” toward the end of Game 3.

Toward the end of an easy Game 3 victory, Joel Embiid may have learned a valuable life lesson — he who smelt it dealt it.

Why is this lesson so important? Well, it may have something to with what occurred toward the end of the Philadelphia 76ers dominating 131-115, a victory that gave them a 2-to-1 lead in their best-of-seven first round series with the Brooklyn Nets.

To being with, let me explain a bit as to why Embiid was in street clothes for this game, and not on the floor.

While Embiid did suit up for the first two games of this series in Philadelphia, he’s also battling lingering knee tendinitis, the same injury that kept him out for all but 10 games after the All-Star break. Looking to keep his superstar fairly healthy, 76ers coach Brett Brown kept Embiid out of Game 3.

It was a risky move, but it seemed to pay off as the rest of his 76ers picked up the slack (especially Ben Simmons) and dominated the Nets in Barclays Center. It was a stinker for Brooklyn, but it also turned out to be one for the 76ers.

Toward the end of the game, the TNT crew panned on Embiid and the 76ers bench. Embiid and the other three players in street clothes started to smell something funky:

It looked like it was funky as most of the players on the 76ers bench looked pretty miserable. Embiid was the last dude to cover his nose and Amir Johnson looked as if he wasn’t phased at all. Remember the lesson “whoever smelt it dealt it?” Well, it looks as if Embiid has finally learned that crucial message.
