MLB Bets – Friday April 19 – Many Dogs Look Like Bargains
By John Fazio
Good day from MLB Bets central. Yesterday (Wednesday) was a big winner for the system going 4-1 and winning 4.44 units.
Using 1 unit per bet as the base and allowing for the lay and take, MLB Bets has reached another season high of +21.23 units. Hopefully today can produce another winner, so here we go – all times Eastern.
Baltimore (+1.80) stands an even chance of beating Minnesota, 7:05 pm
The Orioles enter this series on a bit of an upper after taking the rubber game in Tampa Bay. A new series is a new beginning.
The Orioles send Alex Cobb to the hill. His one start this season was workable, pitching 5.2 innings posting an ERA of 3.18 in a home tilt against the Yankees.
José Berríos goes for the Twins having pitched 3 quality starts. He has an excellent ERA of 2.30 and has been consistent.
Circumstances change all the time however and this is no gimme for Minnesota. The Twins should be favored but not by this much. Baltimore is in the value play range here so MLB Bets will be on them.
Kansas City (+1.83) subdues New York again, 7:05 pm
The starting pitchers strongly favor the Yankees. MLB Bets says KC wins anyway.
Jakob Junis goes for the Royals having 1 quality start in 3 attempts. CC Sabathia by contrast has started only once but it was 5 innings of 1 hit shutout ball.
Yet MLB Bets still wants the Royals because of the way the teams are matching up. The Yankees are 1-5 in their last 6 encounters with the American League Central.
The American League East except for Tampa Bay is in a funk with the Yankees in second place 2 games under .500. No matter the starting pitchers, giving another team close to 2-1 is simply too much.
As with Baltimore, the Royals are a value play at this price.
MLB Bets To Win – Braves turn the tables in Cleveland
Atlanta (+1.40) outlasts the Indians, 7:10 pm
The Braves travel to Cleveland having been swept at home by Arizona, while Cleveland swept an away series in Seattle. It’s time for a change.
Touki Toussaint gets the nod for Atlanta. Six days ago in his first start of the season he pitched great at home against the Mets, hurling 6 innings allowing no earned runs.
Corey Kluber for the Indians has alternated quality starts with disasters en route to a high ERA. In so doing Cleveland is 1-5 in Kluber’s last 6 starts.
MLB Bets believes the Braves should be a small favorite yet they are getting +1.40. Another value play, this time on the Braves, is in store today.
Texas (+2.00) surprises Houston, 8:05 pm
The Astros come into Arlington as a huge favorite. They may not like the results of this series.
Justin Verlander has taken the mound 4 times this season – 3 of them good quality starts. He was rocked 1 time – here in Arlington earlier this month.
This is the toughest park for any hurler to throw. It has turned very good pitchers into mush making it too ambitious for Houston to be such a strong favorite.
Drew Smyly starts for Texas sporting a high 7.15 ERA overall. The only good outing he’s had this season was at home versus Houston.
This is yet another instance that reflects the way the game is perceived but not indicative of the talent on the field. It’s true Houston has the better team in total but not way better in this venue.
The Rangers are 5-1 against right handers at home. They have a shot at making it 6 -1 tonight.
MLB Bets To Win – Rockies win again
Colorado (-1.22) earns their second home win over Philadelphia, 8:40 pm
The Rockies got their first home win of the season with odds stacked against them. Today the starting pitchers are more favorable.

Vince Velasquez takes the hill for the Phillies. He posts a good 2.25 overall ERA with his last start being at Miami. Time will tell if he can parlay that quality outing in Colorado.
The Rockies send German Marquez to the mound. He has thrown 2 great games and 1 disaster en route to a 2.00 ERA.
MLB Bets thinks Colorado as a team is getting healthier and beginning to gel. Let’s give them another try today.
Cincinnati (+1.23) ousts San Diego, 10:10 pm
The Padres are slowing down after their hot start. The Reds are in the right spot to take advantage.
The Reds send Anthony DeSclafani to the mound. His last 2 outings have been poor to put it mildly.
Matt Strahm goes for San Diego having pitched 2 quality starts in a row. As counter intuitive as it sounds, Cincy is the play.
When a team begins faltering, these trends are not nearly as effective as when a team is rolling and in control. This is the game the Padres need to right the ship, but MLB Bets likes the Reds.
MLB Bets Recap – Friday April 19th:
Baltimore +1.80
Kansas City +1.83
Atlanta +1.40
Texas +2.00
Colorado -1.22
Cincinnati +1.23
As of this overnight writing the players are betting Miami. If this line drops anymore Washington will become a value play – MLB Bets will update on twitter during the day.
