With the series shifting back to Oklahoma City for Game 3, can the Thunder figure out a way to slow down the Trail Blazers.

The Trail Blazers have had their way with the Thunder through two games, behind the sparkling play of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. The Blazers duo has combined to average 58 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 3.5 steals per game, with both shooting better than 45 percent from the field, 40 percent on 3-pointers and 80 percent on free throws. They’ve been able to carve up the Thunder’s pick-and-roll defense or drill jumpers over the top of them. If Oklahoma City can’t find a way to slow them down, this series could be over before there’s a chance to get back to Portland.

At the other end, Paul George and Russell Westbrook have been inconsistent at best and disastrous at worst. Compared to Lillard and McCollum, their numbers — 45.5 points, 18.5 rebounds, 12.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game — don’t seem that far off. However, Westbrook is shooting under 40 percent from the field and they’ve combined to make 7-of-32 3-pointers. George has been struggling with a shoulder injury, affecting his shot, and Westbrook seems to be struggling with how much to press without George at his best.

In addition to the struggles of Westbrook and George, Oklahoma City hasn’t been able to get much from the rest of their supporting cast. Dennis Schroder and Jerami Grant have yet to make a 3-pointer on 16 attempts and Steven Adams is the only other player averaging double-figures. It seems reductive to say the Thunder need to play better but that’s where we are right now.
