Borussia Dortmund cannot afford to drop points in their final five games of the season if they are going to win the Bundesliga title. Bayern Munich hold a one-point lead over Dortmund. Even if Dortmund win out, they will need Bayern to drop points down the stretch. On Sunday, Freiburg host Dortmund at Schwarzwald-Stadion. Freiburg are 13th in the table but recently drew with Bayern.

Dortmund rebounded after losing 5-0 to Bayern Munich by beating Mainz 2-1. Jadon Sancho scored both goals giving him 10 goals this season. While attacking has never been a problem for Dortmund, the club has scored 68 goals this season, they have struggled to defend. Defensive errors at the back have become costly for Dortmund. Lucien Favre has changed his back four week to week, preventing the players from developing any consistency together. Favre will likely continue to change his back four again and that could leave Dortmund vulnerable to making mistakes at the back.

After stealing a point from Bayern, Freiburg have lost two straight. Freiburg’s late comeback attempt against Werder Bremen fell short last weekend. Christian Streich’s team are safe from relegation but have scored the fifth fewest goals this season and have allowed 50 goals this season. While Freiburg are not a great team, they have 11 draws this season. If they are able to hold Dortmund to a draw, it could decide the title race.
