Game of Thrones season 8 episode 2 contains an Easter egg for readers of the book featured prominently in the episode.
“Jenny’s Song,” a major Easter egg (happy Easter everyone) for readers of the Song of Ice and Fire books appears twice in Game of Thrones season 8 episode 2, so what’s the significance?
According to A Wiki of Ice and Fire, “Jenny’s song is a sad song that is always requested by the ghost of High Heart as payment in exchange for telling the brotherhood without banners of her prophetic dreams. It may be about Jenny of Oldstones, who, according to the tales, was acquainted with a woods witch.”
“Jenny’s Song” is the sung by the knights drinking wine, shortly after Jorah is given the Heartsbane sword and before Jon and Daenerys’ conversation in the crypts. It’s then heard again as the ending credits song. Additionally, it’s the title of the episode. Which is to say, it sure seems pretty significant, even prophetic.
Elsewhere on Reddit, u/AlwaysWinterr explains Jenny’s song is “the song of the Prince that was Promised a.k.a. Azor Ahai.” The lyrics go, as best guessed by u/ViolaneSugarHiccup:
"High in the halls of the kings who are gone Jenny would dance with her ghostsThe ones she had lost and the ones she had found and the ones who had loved her the mostThe ones who’d been gone for so very long She couldn’t remember their namesThey spun her around on the damp old stones Spun away all her sorrow and painAnd she never wanted to leave"
Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3 airs Sunday, April 28 at 9 p.m. ET.
