Justin Bieber, Drake curses do Toronto Maple Leafs no favors
By Nick Villano
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost yet another first-round series to the Boston Bruins. A couple of major Canadian celebrities known for their sports curses were not happy with the result.
Famous rapper Drake was very happy on Tuesday night as his Toronto Raptors won their first-round matchup with the Orlando Magic. He joked about the dreaded “Drake Curse” as he was leaving the building. Of course, the Drake curse wasn’t even enough for the Orlando Magic to pull off this miracle. You know where the Drake Curse was strong enough? In Boston, where the Toronto Maple Leafs saw their season end once again at the hands of the Bruins. Drake was in the building for Game 4, a Maple Leafs loss.
One celebrity who was in TD Garden for Game 7 was Justin Bieber. The Biebs was seen in a box taking the game in with his wife Hailey Baldwin who had a Maple Leafs jersey on. As soon as Freddy Anderson let the first goal softly slip past him, instead of blaming him fans quickly blamed the singer in the building.
Fans were brutal to Bieber on social media, with some blaming him for every goal against, others barring him from ever coming to a Leafs game again, and then some Boston fans thanking him for his presence. At least for once Boston fans were nice to an opposing fan in their building.
In the past, the Bieber curse has forced many teams in the loss column, or worse, has them going home early. His curse has hit the New York Knicks, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Spain’s National Soccer Team.
Once again, it’s his beloved Maple Leafs on the wrong side of this curse.
Maybe we thought that the Drake Curse and the Bieber Curse would act like double negatives, and turn into a positive. That wasn’t the case, as the Biebs strikes again. Hopefully this time he’s learned to not step on a team’s logo at least.
