Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City: Premier League highlights and recap
Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday, April 24. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Manchester City gained a huge edge in the Premier League title race on Wednesday, beating Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford. They now lead Liverpool by a point with three games left to play.
United started the game as quickly as you might have expected given their loss on Sunday. They seemed intent on showing their performance at Goodison Park was an anomaly, and not the new norm.
Despite plenty of energy and intensity, however, they struggled to create any clearcut chances. There were spaces for Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford on the break, but United’s midfield didn’t seem capable of finding them with any regularity.
Paul Pogba looked dangerous at times, and had plenty of nice moments, but rarely got on the ball in a position to pick out a pass, while Fred and Andreas Pereira seemed to get most of United’s touches in the middle of the pitch.
City settled well and had by far the better chances of the half. The best fell to Raheem Sterling, who beat a couple of United players along the edge of the six-yard box, before scuffing his shot straight at David de Gea.
The away side took charge of the game in the second half, even after Fernandinho was forced of with an injury, and Bernardo Silva gave them a lead in the 54th minute, finishing at the near post after beating Luke Shaw on the dribble.
United had another brief flurry of pressure following the goal, and Jesse Lingard whiffed on a great chance, but Leroy Sane, who had replaced Fernandinho, effectively ended the game in the 66th minute, driving the ball past de Gea from the top of the box.
