Loki died in Infinity War, but before Thanos’ snap. Will the events of Avengers Endgame bring him back?

This post contains spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

We know we’re being aggressive but we really don’t want to spoil Avengers: Endgame for you so please: If you don’t want to know the events of the fourth Avengers film and 22nd MCU feature, stop reading now. There’s going to be an ad break and then we’re going to get into it. Last chance to click away.

Okay, you’re here so you want to know whether Loki is alive or dead during and/or at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Unfortunately, for all their time travel and bouncing about to bring back Avengers like Spider-Man and Black Panther, it appears Loki is real and truly dead. As you remember in Infinity War, Loki was not snapped out of existence, he was just plain old killed. In a pretty permanent way. And, unlike Gamora, who returns to the squad by way of a past version of herself traveling to the future and sticking around, Loki does not get recruited, despite appearing in many of the past scenarios the Avengers visit on their temporal infinity stone scavenger hunt.

Technically, Loki doesn’t die in Avengers: Endgame. But that’s only because he is already dead. So, another way to phrase it is Loki does not come back to life in Endgame.

Then again, Loki is a trickster god and he’s been counted out before only to show back up with a new con in play. Which is to say, maybe keep an eye on Tom Hiddleston’s IMDb page.

See for yourself in theaters. Avengers: Endgame is out everywhere April 26.
