The Washington Redskins made a great trade to get back into the first round of the NFL Draft and select Montez Sweat.

One player who had a fall down NFL Draft boards on Thursday night was Montez Sweat. It’s not a surprise the Mississippi State defensive end fell after reports came out his NFL Combine physical found a problem with his heart.

That’s very stressful for NFL teams, but this kid is another level when it comes to talent. He ran a 4.41 40 yard dash as a defensive lineman/linebacker. You can’t teach that kind of speed. He is a freak athlete, and now the Redskins have an amazing player if his health works out.

Sweat also might have been misdiagnosed with the issue according to Houston Texans team doctors. Again, that makes the pick even harder to make because now he’s a question mark.

It doesn’t matter, because many picks in the mid-to-late 20s are question marks. They might just be not good, but we know this kid is going to have all the skills to be a great football player. If his heart is ready to play, and if he got to this point of the process we have to think the Redskins are confident in that, then he can be a game changer.

The Redskins had to trade with the Indianapolis Colts to get back in this position. They traded the 46th overall pick in this NFL Draft and a second-round pick in next year’s draft. They give up zero first rounders to get a second first rounder. After all the reports of turmoil in Washington with infighting between the head coach and the owner, dare we say the Redskins are killing this draft. First they get Dwayne Haskins without trading up, now they get Sweat with a great draft-day trade.

Sweat was one of the best edge players in college football, and now he gets to play in Washington where he can explode under Jay Gruden and Greg Manusky.
