Hot starts are always something to be wary of. But sometimes they are a sign of things to come. Who are the top 5 pitchers in the American League Cy Young race so far?

*Stats as of April 24. All ranks are AL ranks unless otherwise noted.

When you gloss over the starting pitching leader boards in the American League something quickly sticks out. What is it? The American League East and Central have dominated the field thus far.

According to ESPN.com, not one starter from the AL West is represented within the top-10 ERA leaders. Of course, does this really mean anything? Not really, and it would probably make sense that the Central division has few ERA leaders to due how lousy the division is.

Regardless, many starters have either rebounded from past struggles, or they have picked up right where they left off in 2018. Before the list begins, it is always wise to acknowledge some of the guys who just missed the cut. Therefore, here are the honorable mentions: Masahiro Tanaka, RHP New York Yankees. Carlos Rodon, LHP Chicago White Sox. Aaron Sanchez, RHP and Matt Shoemaker, RHP Toronto Blue Jays.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s breakdown the five pitchers who did make the cut.
