5 teams that won the 2019 NFL Draft
Washington Redskins
Whereas the New York Giants foolishly selected a quarterback who had little business being drafted in the first two rounds, the Washington Redskins scooped up one of the three players vying for the Heisman Trophy last year.
In his lone season as a starter, Dwayne Haskins torched some of the best teams in the country, finishing with 50 touchdowns. Though he may not be mobile, many of the concerns, including body composition and inexperience, levied against Haskins are trivial compared to the very real accuracy and upside concerns on Daniel Jones.
Haskins gives his new team plenty of hope, and he qualifies as a “local” star having attended high school in Potomac, Maryland. He’s immediately the new starting quarterback and should elevate talented wideouts Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson with his precise accuracy and mouth-watering arm talent.
But while Haskins undoubtedly qualifies as a steal at No. 15, defensive lineman Montez Sweat was an even bigger coup for the suddenly-competent (maybe) Bruce Allen. Washington couldn’t watch Sweat tumble further, as they scooped up the top-10 prospect. Drafting a franchise quarterback was this organization’s biggest need, but Washington also needed a stud on defense badly; Sweat can be that guy.
Terry McLauren joins Richardson as another dynamic deep threat for Haskins, Bryce Love should get plenty of attention during training camp at the running back position after a stellar college career at Stanford, and Kelvin Harmon was beyond a steal in the sixth round. Harmon has drawn comparisons to receivers like Mohamed Sanu, Kenny Golladay, and Michael Crabtree, who have all been low to high-end WR2s in the NFL. He’s not that different from New England Patriots first-round pick N’Keal Harry.
