Juventus captured their eighth straight Serie A title last weekend after beating Fiorentina. With five games remaining in the season, Juventus have nothing left to play for. On Saturday, Inter Milan host Juventus at the San Siro. Inter are third in the table but could be in danger of dropping out of the top four if they falter over their remaining games.
Inter are five points ahead of fifth place but a loss to Juventus could pull them back into the race for the final two Champions League spots. Luciano Spalletti’s team have played well lately, winning four of their last seven games and picking up 14 points. Inter have not lost since Mauro Icardi returned to the lineup following a contract dispute with the club. Icardi leads the club with 10 goals but has only scored once since returning to the lineup.
Despite running away with the Scudetto this season, the season is considered a failure for Juventus. Since Massimiliano Allegri took over as manager in 2014, Juventus have won the Scudetto and Coppa Italia every season. That streak ended this season after Juventus were eliminated from the Coppa Italia. However, it is Juventus’ loss to Ajax in the Champions League that could end up costing Allegri his job. Juventus expected to win the Champions League after signing Cristiano Ronaldo but were outplayed over two legs by the Dutch club. With the season essentially over with games still left to be played, Allegri will have to find new ways to motivate his club to finish the season on a strong note.
