There are just six episodes in the final season of Game of Thrones, with just four left. The remaining chapters will clock in around 80 minutes, with the third one being the longest, with a feature-length of 82 minutes. The battle at Winterfell will be extraordinary. It is the longest consecutive battle scene in film or television. If that doesn’t get your heart racing, I don’t know what does. This is a fight for the soul of humanity, of course.

Since it hit HBO, Game of Thrones was a game-changer for television. It has been part of the cultural lexicon for years now as one of the most groundbreaking and talked about series in the history of TV. HBO has spared no expense for the final season of its most famous drama. Season 8 cost approximately $90 million, at an average of $15 million per episode, making it the most expensive series in history. Much of that will have been spent on the upcoming one, with battle sequences always being the costliest to film.

For the final season, HBO is keeping each episode title under lock and key until the very last minute, but the show will likely be named “The Battle of Winterfell” or something similar.

When we left off the second episode cliffhanger, the unwelcome army of the dead had shown up at Winterfell’s door. The residents will have to defend. From the looks of it, Daenerys will be tabling their discussion of who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne for later, while she and Jon (Aegon) mount the North’s big weapons in this fight, the two Targaryen dragons, Drogon and Rheagal.

The last episode was a surprisingly death-free nostalgia-fest. As heartfelt and lovely as that was, it pretty much was the calm before the storm. Death is coming and the death toll will likely be epic, with several of our favorites ending up on the chopping block. There are betting pools and lots of speculation on who won’t emerge from the battle alive.

There are theories on if the Night King will even be there, or if he will initiate another battle in Westeros. Will Arya’s secret weapon factor in? How will she utilize her Faceless Man powers? Will Dany’s remaining dragons survive or will those javelins the Wights were holding hit their targets (a very savvy person brightened the trailer to show the dragons in action)? Will the Stark dead in the crypts come alive? (please don’t show us a dead Ned Stark. I won’t be able to take it) Who will die? Who will die? Who will die?! OK, Theon, for sure (tears). And what happened to Cersei’s elephants? She really wanted those elephants!!! I digress…

Game of Thrones excels at depicting battles, with the Battle of Blackwater and Hardhome among the best episodes in the series’ history. However, the Winterfell clash will be much broader and blockbuster in scope. The enormous endeavor took 11 weeks to film in frigid temperatures, under extremely challenging weather conditions (strong winds, freezing rain, and mud everywhere).
