Seattle Seahawks
Grade: B+
Best pick: D.K. Metcalf (WR, TCU)
Questionable pick: Cody Barton (LB, Utah)
Sleeper pick: Travis Homer (RB, Miami)
A week ago, the Seattle Seahawks had just four picks in the 2019 draft but after trade-back wizard John Schneider worked his magic, Seattle had selected nine times. While it meant losing Frank Clark in the process, the Seahawks were able to greatly improve the depth of their roster while adding some players with tantalizing upside.
The first-round selection of TCU’s L.J. Collier was a surprise (what’s a first-round Seahawks pick without it being a surprise), but his power could make him an excellent player at 5-tech. Most notably, Seattle ended the slide of human Create-A-Player D.K. Metcalf, who figures to be an excellent fit for the Seahawks’ offensive philosophy. Following the news of Doug Baldwin’s potential retirement, Seattle was wise to reload at the wide receiver position and did an outstanding job by adding Metcalf, Gary Jennings Jr and John Ursua.
Utah’s Cody Barton seemed to be a bit of a reach, but could play into the fact of Seattle looking to keep K.J. Wright healthy by limiting his snaps. Running back Travis Homer is a sneaky good sixth-round prospect and while he’ll have to compete for carries in a crowded Seattle backfield, he has the size and explosiveness to be a dangerous weapon for Brian Schottenheimer’s offense.
