New York Jets
Grade: B
Best pick:Ā Quinnen Williams (DT, Alabama)
Questionable pick:Ā Jachai Polite (EDGE, Florida)
Sleeper pick:Ā Trevon Wesco (TE, West Virginia)
While there was plenty of speculation about the Jets being intent on trading down from the third overall pick, nothing materialized and they were still rewarded with arguably the best player in the entire draft in Alabamaās Quinnen Williams. As one of the most disruptive players in all of college football last season, Williams will step into a Jets defense next to fellow defensive line standout Leonard Williams. When we look back at this draft in five years, donāt be surprised if Quinnen Williams is the best player from this entire class.
There are a lot of question marks surrounding Floridaās Jachai Polite, mainly for having one of the worst pre-draft processes in recent memory. Many were projecting him to be a first-round pick before a poor showing at the Combine and not helping redeem himself at the Gatorsā Pro Day. When all is going right, however, Polite can be a dynamic pass rusher off the edge with an explosive first step and speed.
Tight end Trevon Wesco of West Virginia was one of my favorite sleepers in a deep tight end class, and new head coach Adam Gase should be able to find plenty of ways to utilize him in the passing game as a security blanket for Sam Darnold.
