NFL power rankings: Saints, Chargers lead way into 2019
2019 Key Additions: This offseason, the Green and White had a lot of decisions to make in terms of free agents as the club had their share of unsigned veterans. The Jets retained a few but GM Mike Maccagnan went out and invested big in one-time Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back Le’Veon Bell, who sat out all of 2018. New head coach Adam Gase and the team also signed wide receiver Jamison Crowder and traded for guard Kelechi Osemele. On the other side of the ball, new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will make the most out of four-time Pro Bowl inside linebacker C.J. Mosley, as well as University of Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams – the third overall selection in the draft.
Offseason Review: After spending three seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Gase is more than familiar with the entire AFC East. Second-year quarterback Sam Darnold should benefit from not only the addition of Bell and Crowder but other veteran newcomers such as wideout Jay Bellamy and versatile running back Ty Montgomery. And the temptation of trying to do too much by himself should enable the young hurler to cut down on the turnovers. Meanwhile, Williams is more than capable of reviving the Jets’ defense, which will need its young talent to come together sooner than later.
