Arena Football League DFS Slate Breakdown – Week 2
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to the Arena Football League slate breakdown for week 2 of the AFL season. In this article I will break down both games on the Saturday slate as DraftKings decided to make this a 2 game, one day slate going forward (unless there are 3 games on one day). I prefer one day slates for contests, but when it leaves us with only 2 games it does seem like the better option would be to have 3 games on the slate, but we’re at the mercy of DK so we have to make do with what we have.
For those who are finding Arena Football League DFS for the first time on DraftKings, I will break down the scoring and roster construction for you briefly.
As far as scoring goes it’s the same basic scoring from NFL contest on DK 6 points for a receiving/rushing touchdown, 4 points for a passing touchdown, 1 point for every 10 yards receiving/rushing, and 1 point for every 25 passing yards. I will attach a link to the DK scoring page below for you go over all scoring yourself.
Roster construction is similar to showdown contests where you get 6 total flex positions with 1 being designated as a captain which earns 1.5 times points.
Arena Football League DFS – Columbus @ Atlantic City
Last week against Albany, Columbus put up a mere 19 points, which is like being shutout in the Arena League so I think they are a fade for me this week, but Atlantic City put up 41 points in a loss to Philadelphia. I definitely like some of the players from A.C.
Lamark Brown ($8,000 ; $12,000 CPT) appears to be the #1 target for QB Randy Hippeard ($9,200 ; $13,200 CPT) catching 8 balls for 90 and 3 touchdowns giving him a team high 34 DKFP. Hippeard was not one of the top QB’s last week with only 178 yards passing, 5 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions giving him only 31.2 DKFP, but Columbus did allow Albany QB Tommy Grady to throw for 230 yards last week, so Hippeard could see an uptick in yards this week, maybe even getting to the 300 yard 3 point bonus.
Lamark Brown is my top play from this game, but since I will most likely be stacking the next game I may want to pay down for an A.C. player and look at someone like Kendrick Ings ($3,200 ; $4,800 CPT) as my favorite play for his ability that he showed last week, 6 catchers 41 yards and a touchdown, but also for his low price that will allow me to get the top guys I need from the next game. Lastly for the BlackJacks, Antwane Grant ($3,000 ; $4,500 CPT) is an option with such a low price and picking up 4 catchers, 47 yards, and a score last week.
If you want to play someone from Columbus the only person I would recommend is Anthony Amos ($5,200 ; $7,800 CPT) who was the team’s top WR last week with 7 receptions and 98 yards, but did not get into the end zone. If Amos can continue with this production and get some competent QB play he could have an even better day and get into the end zone 2-3 times.
Arena Football League DFS – Washington Valor @ Albany Empire
This game features two of the best offenses in the league and should be an extremely high scoring game, possibly the highest scoring on the schedule ( Baltimore and Philly on Friday night could beat this one out). I love both QB’s here and their top wideouts, that is why I want to go with a lower priced guy from Atlantic City so I can pay up for this game.

Arvell Nelson ($10,200 ; $15,300 CPT) is expensive for a captains pick, but if I can make the salary work, Nelson is my top Captain’s Pick this week. Last week Nelson put up nearly 400 passing yards (391 to be exact) and threw for 8 touchdown passes picking up 49.7 DKFP, or 74.55 Captains points. Nelson’s top target last week Dezmon Epps ($9,800 ; $14,700 CPT) was the top overall player in the AFL with 9 catches, 201 receiving yards, 4 touchdowns and totaling 56.1 DKFP.
If I can’t get up to Nelso, Epps is my next pick for Captain this week. With two expensive players, you will need some more salary relief to fit them both, this is where I look to a guy like Phillip Barnett ($3,200 ; $4,800 CPT). Barnett only caught 2 passes last week for 18 yards, but took both his receptions to end zone for scores.
Looking at Albany’s roster, QB Tommy Grady ($8,600 ; $12,900 CPT) is my favorite play. Last week Grady completed 73% of his passes for 230 yards, 4 touchdowns and 24.1 DKFP. Grady was the best QB in the league last year and even though he didn’t have the best game last week, this week I think he bounces back and has a more Grady-like game with 300+ yards and 5-6 touchdowns. Malachi Jones ($6,600 ; $9,900 CPT) was Grady’s top WR last week, and is the reigning top WR in the league and rookie of the year as well.
Jones caught 11 balls for 94 yards and a score last week, which was a slow week for Jones, considering he had 29 touchdowns last season. Quentin Sims ($5,400 ; $8,100 CPT) caught 5 passes for 50 yards in week 1 as well as 2 touchdowns, and Christian Briggs ($2,800 ; $4,200) who took in 1 pass for a 16 yard touchdown are good lower priced options to fill out your lineup.
