Fantasy Football 2019: Rookie mock draft for dynasty leagues
By Kevin Scott
Round 2
2.1 – Kyler Murray, QB, Cardinals – Even though quarterbacks are worth less in fantasy, this player in this offense could be top five at the position for fantasy scoring.
2.2 – Marquise Brown, WR, Ravens – Amazingly, Brown was the first receiver taken in this draft, but he still comes in the second round here because of his situation. The Ravens are not good at developing wide receivers, and Lamar Jackson is not an accurate passer. He still has upside though.
2.3 – JJ Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Eagles – This is a nice landing spot for him, and he could take over the # 1 role in a year or two (after next season the Eagles could cut Jeffery with only a $2.9m dead cap hit). For now, he may play in three-wide sets with Jeffery and DeSean Jackson.
2.4 – Mecole Hardman, WR, Chiefs – He did not make our top 36 last time around, so this is a huge nod to his landing spot and draft position. The Chiefs seem to think they can utilize him in Reid’s offense, and they are usually right about that. Still, he is not Tyreek Hill, so do not expect that kind of production.
2.5 – Jace Sternberger, TE, Packers – Though Graham is still around, Sternberger is their future at tight end. He is a bit raw, but he could become a top tight end if he successfully makes the jump to the pros. If he could learn under Graham and get comfortable with Rodgers, perhaps next year he could become one of the pillars of their offense.
2.6 – Irv Smith, Jr., TE, Vikings – He fell from a few spots from the last mock draft more because of other players getting bumps up than because of his landing spot. Some don’t like the Vikings for his prospects, but the Vikings have apparently been wanting to get more athletic at tight end for a while, and could use him often on passing downs – while Rudolph does more blocking.
2.7 – Darwin Thompson, RB, Chiefs – Many will say it is crazy to have Thompson ahead of so many other backs who were more highly drafted. But I loved Thompson’s talent pre-draft, and his landing spot makes him one of the juiciest sleepers in this class. He may start sharing lead duties with Damien Williams by next season.
2.8 – Darrell Henderson, RB, Rams – It’s entirely possible this ranking is too low for Henderson, but Gurley is still elite, and should handle the vast majority of touches. Henderson should get a few carries a game and will not produce much in his rookie year. He is this high due to long-term outlook and because he’s a very talented home run hitter as a runner.
2.9 – Terry McLaurin, WR, Redskins – He ran a 4.35 40 at the Combine, and he is known as a hard worker and good route runner. He could become their best receiver quickly.
2.10 – Diontae Johnson, WR, Steelers – Simply put, Johnson would not be in this mock draft at all if not for his landing spot. But the Steelers have proven they know how to develop receivers and they know how to spot talented receivers, so he is worth a flier in your rookie drafts.
2.11 – Miles Boykin, WR, Ravens – This is not a good landing spot for him, but he will become their best overall receiver within a year or two.
2.12 – Dawson Knox, TE, Bills – The Bills have only Tyler Kroft at tight end, and he is not great. Knox could become a useful fantasy tight end if the Bills offense starts clicking.
