Where do the Thunder and Russell Westbrook go from here?
By Keith Parish
Andrew Schlecht joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast to discuss what’s next for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Russell Westbrook averaged a triple double in the regular season in each of those seasons, but his sub-.400 shooting percentage in the post-season has been too much to overcome.
While Westbrook seemingly receives the lion’s share of the criticism from fans and media, Paul George, Billy Donovan, and general manager Sam Presti all shoulder blame for falling short of goals. Is there even a path for Oklahoma City to pivot to something different going forward, or have salaries and circumstance stuck them all together for the near future, doomed to be nothing more than first round fodder?
To help answer these tough questions, Andrew Schlecht (@andrewskchlecht) joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Andrew hosts the Thunder podcasts “Down to Dunk,” “OKC Dream Team,” and “The Daily Thunder.” Will Oklahoma City be able rebuild around the current core? Will ownership continue to pay the repeater tax to keep this expensive roster together? Even if they were motivated to move Westbrook or Steven Adams, would they be able to receive any return of value for them?
In addition to these Thunder topics, this episode also features Adam Mares from Denver Stiffs reliving the final bizarre 30 seconds of Nuggets and Spurs Game 7, breaking down what exactly what happened second by second.
