DraftKings PGA: 2019 Wells Fargo Championship
DraftKings PGA: 2019 Wells Fargo Championship
The 2019 RBC Heritage was a good week for me! Although I was not on CT Pan, not many others were. I was heavily invested in Kuchar and Na, both of which paid off handsomely. It was also nice to enjoy the win for a bye week. The two-man team format is entertaining, but does not entice me. It is far from the Ryder Cup. PGA action does not wait too long tho, and they are back at it in North Carolina at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Quail Hollow Golf Club has hosted this event since 2003, taking one year off to host the PGA Championship. The Par-71 course plays well over 7,500 yards and is known to be one of the most challenging courses in the PGA rotation. Closing with the Green Mile – a ridiculously difficult stretch of 16, 17 and 18 – has seen multiple leaders falter.
Your previous Quail Hollow winners have been members of the “Bomber” community. Day, Hahn, McIlroy, and Holmes took home the hardware from 2014-18. Based on the names you see on that list, scrambling will be extremely important. The champion will likely shoot in the -12 to -16 range, unless the course plays easier than it typically has in the past.
The main grass-type this week is Bermuda. The greens are overseeded with poa, so it is not too uncommon to see West Coast crushers like Phil Mickelson succeed here. This course will be a fun test for the best golfers in the world…and the bottom of this DraftKings field.

DraftKings PGA: 2019 Wells Fargo Championship – Picks
$10,300 Justin Rose
Justin Rose is playing as good of golf as anyone in the field. He faltered at The Masters and now he is priced in the low 10K range? He ranks 3rd In my model, and leads the field in DK scoring over the last 12 and 36 rounds. Rose’s history at this course is solid, with finishes of 3rd and 5th in 2016 and 2014, his last 2 Wells Fargo Championship events.
His price is far too low for the world class golfer that he is. Rose will likely garner around 20% ownership this week due to his attractive price. I will be severely overweight, hoping for a bounce back from The Masters.
$9,700 Webb Simpson
Simpson may not be the best fit for this course, but he always seems to play well here in his home state. His last 4 rounds at this tournament, Simpson has a T21, MC, T2, and T38. The conditions will be excellent, and I will be overweight on Simpson.
Simpson sets up well in my model, ranking 4th. He ranks 1st in the field in SG: Short Game over his last 36 rounds on Bermuda. His worst category in my model is still 40th in the field. I will take that balance any day of the week.
$9,100 Phil Mickelson
Phil is not particularly highly ranked in my model, but I love the new approach Phil is taking to life, and I love his course history. Phil tends to struggle on the Bermuda swing, and I do not think my modelis taking into account the Poa overseeding with some of my stats.
Phil ranks 2nd in SG: Quail Hollow, sporting a healthy number of top-10 finishes without holding the trophy. T5, T4, T4 over his last 3 Wells Fargo Championships.
DraftKings PGA: 2019 Wells Fargo Championship – Values
The statistical form for CH3 has been popping since the RSM. He is striking the ball well, crushes it off the tee, and has a solid little short game. Howell missed the cut at the RBC Heritage, which was his first MC since late 2018. I will trust CH3 to get back on the cut making train at a course where he has gained almost 13 strokes over his past 4 tournaments.

Howell is top-10 in the field in Short game gained, SG:TOT and DK Scoring. I will comfortably roll with CH3 this week.
$6,700 Johnson Wagner
I am hoping that some home cooking will be good for Wagner this week. He is nowhere near a bomber, but he has performed well at long courses like Corrales. He is a good ball striker (18th in SG:App) and has one of the hottest putter in the field (14th in SG:P Bermuda). If it is rolling early, look for his success on the greens to prop up his finish.
$6,200 Nate Lashley
I have never used Lashley before, but I will be heavily overweight on him this week. My model loves him, ranking 21st in the field. No part of his game sticks out, but I like the success of Lefty’s at this course. I love him to make the cut this week, which is more than you can ask of a near minimum salary guy. He will allow me to get those high-priced studs in my lineup.
