Iker Casillas condition ‘stable’ after reported heat attack
Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas reportedly suffered a heart attack at a practice session on Wednesday morning, but his condition is said to be “stable.”
Iker Casillas, a three-time Champions League winner and former World Cup champion, is in stable condition after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday morning. The acute myocardial infarction occurred at a training session while with club Porto, the team Casillas has helped lead to success since 2015.
Currently in the hospital, the 37-year-old goalkeeper’s status is otherwise unknown, but it is a huge relief to hear that he is “fine,” according to Porto.
“The work session was promptly interrupted so that assistance could be given to the FC Porto goalkeeper, who is at this moment at the CUP Porto Hospital. Casillas is fine, stable and with his cardiac problem resolved.”
Casillas began his senior career at Real Madrid C in 1998 before becoming a legend in Spain’s capital, leading Los Blancos to five La Liga titles, in addition to three Champions League victories. He captained Real and Spain, winning two European Championships and a World Cup for his country during their run of dominance.
At Porto, Casillas helped the club win Portugal’s Primeira Liga last season, and Porto made it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League this year before being eliminated by Liverpool.
All that matters right now is Casillas’ health. This is an incredibly scary situation, and hopefully his situation remains stable. It will be important to keep an eye on further updates regarding Casillas’ status after this sudden heart attack.
As a player, Casillas’ excellence is well-known, having made it to 20 consecutive seasons in the Champions League in addition to receiving several individual accolades at both a club and international level for his era-defining brilliance in goal. But beyond that, Casillas has touched many lives as a person, as he is known for his humanitarian work. Casillas is a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and has his own charitable foundation.
