Coming off of a 1-0 loss to Ajax in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals, Tottenham may be more focused on their second leg battle with the Amsterdam club with Son Heung-min back from suspension.
Son will be the focal point of the game plan on Saturday as the main striker against AFC Bournemouth, who find themselves in 14th place. Tottenham must be on their guard against a Bournemouth side that can be a trap opponent when at home, though their 65 goals against show that Spurs can take full advantage of their spotty defensive record.
Though it was ruled that center back Jan Vertonghen did not suffer a concussion in the team’s Champions League match against Ajax, he will likely be out with a nose injury. Juan Foyth would pair up with Toby Alderweireld in the center of the pitch against David Brooks and Callum Wilson. The latter has been in great form as Bournemouth’s striker, with 14 goals and nine assists this season, including three goals and three assists in his last three games. Wilson and Ryan Fraser can cause problems for Tottenham defensively.
That said, Tottenham are in third place and seem relatively safe in that position heading into Matchday 37, even with Chelsea just two points behind in fourth place. Son, Lucas Moura, and Christian Eriksen all have either double-digit goals or assists this season, so Spurs have more than enough firepower to unleash a barrage of goals on a suspect Bournemouth defense.
