Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs: Live stream and fight info
Canelo Alvarez faces his toughest opponent in Daniel Jacobs since his victory over GGG. Alvarez vs. Jacobs is the biggest fight of the year.
Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs) is quickly solidifying himself as boxing’s biggest draw since the absence of Floyd Mayweather Jr. His next bout on Saturday, May 4 against Daniel Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) is his biggest test since upending Gennady Golovkin by majority decision in 2018.
Alvarez has only lost one fight in his 54-fight career which started in 2005 when he was just 15 years old. His lone loss came against Mayweather in 2013 as a super welterweight. Alvarez’s boxing IQ has skyrocketed since that point, and he’s one of the soundest boxing technicians in the sport.
Jacobs is an experienced middleweight who has been through a lot. He is a cancer survivor who defied the odds and returned to boxing despite requiring risky back surgery that could have caused permanent paralysis.
Jacobs lost an early bout to Dmitry Pirog in 2010, but the only other man to defeat him was Golokvin in 2017. It was a close fight, and Jacobs gave a good account of himself. He still believes that he won that fight despite not receiving the decision. Alvarez agrees with his perspective.
Other than Golovkin, Jacobs is the only other middleweight that offers Alvarez a legitimate challenge. The undercard bouts are underwhelming, which means that the authority of Alvarez’s and Jacobs’ names carries all the interest in this boxing affair.
On the line are Alvarez’s WBC and WBA middleweight titles along with Jacobs’ IBF belt. The lone middleweight championship not accounted for is the WBO title held by Demetrius Andrade.
