Vignette reveals mystery talent to debut for NJPW
By Paul Bradley
A new and mysterious talent is set to make his debut for NJPW on June 5, and he looks to be targeting Juice Robinson.
A video package was played after Juice Robinson’s win in a tag match against Chase Owens, Bad Luck Fale and Jay White, at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestling Dontaku event on Thursday night.
The video package showed a man sitting at a bar wearing a biker jacket with the label “Death Riders” on the back of it. He was also shown clutching a knife that looked as if it had a set of brass knuckles as the hilt. The man was watching one of Robinson’s matches on the bar’s big screen and the sight of Robinson seemed to agitate him. The video also showed a bartender flipping over a large hourglass and the words “Time’s Up” appearing in neon letters. The date of June 5, 2019 was also shown before the video transitioned to black.
There were was one big easter egg that was hidden in the video that has possibly helped narrow down the mystery man.
The man’s jacket had a Union Jack patch on it which would hint that the new roster member may be from the UK or have history in the UK.
Rumors have already started flying across social media on who this man could be and there are three major names that have formed a consensus amongst fans.
The first name is UK shoot-style fighter Chris Ridgeway. Many fans have shot down this theory as Ridgeway’s signature hand tattoo was not shown on the man’s hand but there is always the possibility of the tattoo being hidden to mask the man’s identity.
The second name is UK-based grappler Chris Brookes. This name seems to have most fans in agreement as Brookes has a clothing brand called Death By Roll Up which makes designs very similar to the “Death Riders” patch that was seen on the back of the biker’s jacket.
The third and final name wouldn’t be a debut but it would be a new gimmick for a wrestler. Many fans have theorized that the mystery man could be Robinson’s close friend and tag partner David Finlay. The theory that the mystery man is Finlay is supported by the video’s hints that the mystery man seems to know Robinson very well.
This vignette and the impending debut of El Phantasmo shows that NJPW, like WWE, is possibly looking to bring in new UK talent to fill our their roster.
The mystery man is set to debut on June 5. Fans will certainly be guessing on his identity until then.
