Chelsea face Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, May 5. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Having drawn in each of their last three games in all competitions, Chelsea will be hungry to secure all three points in a tough matchup against Watford, who could move further into the top 10 with an upset victory on the road at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea could jump into third place with a win and a Tottenham loss, as they are still battling with Arsenal and Manchester United for a final Champions League spot. Though Chelsea have been far from excellent lately, they have looked like a more competent side than either United or Arsenal, with the latter’s defense in shambles.
Thankfully for The Blues, their own defense looks solid. Center back Anthony Rüdiger is back, and left back Marcos Alonso is continuing his excellent form this season. At right back, Cesar Azpilicueta is essentially an institution for Chelsea, leading the team in both tackles and total minutes played.
This defense will have to stand its ground against a Watford attack that is tied for seventh in the Premier League in goals. With nine goals and five assists each, Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu, who had one of the best goals in the month of April, are capable of the spectacular.
Chelsea have the most to play for on Matchday 37, though Watford will want to prove themselves against a top team and have their own ambitions of European football next season.
An upset win and some luck elsewhere in the table could allow the Hornets to grab seventh behind the Chelsea/Arsenal/United drop-off, but that remains to be seen. Last week’s loss to Wolverhampton hurt their case, and goalkeeper Ben Foster will have to step up if they are to beat Eden Hazard and Chelsea on Sunday.
