The sports calendar is buzzing this time of year, and we have the latest from Kris Bryant, the Cubs and the rest from a fantastic weekend.

1. Kris Bryant scores four to put the Cubs up, 13-2, on national TV.

Chicago-St. Louis remains one of the great MLB rivalries, and with both jarring for the lead in the National League Central, Sunday night’s ESPN matchup was charged up.

After the Cubs got off to a big lead, the 2016 NL MVP sent it home with a grand slam.

2. Brandon Dixon walks it off for the Tigers

In the bottom of the 10th with two men on against the division rival Royals, the young utilityman Dixon took a hanging off-speed pitch deep to win it for Detroit. With the win, the Tigers crept back toward .500 in a season in which they were expected to be cellar-dwellers.

3. Harden finishes the job

We’re ignoring the final shot James Harden made on Saturday night because it was a missed offensive foul call. Instead, we’re recognizing the 2018 MVP for nailing his signature shot with time winding down during overtime of a do-or-die Game 3. This series may yet have life.

4. Curry blows the dunk

OK, we all can agree not to overreact to this one… right? A two-time MVP and one of the best offensive players in the history of basketball can have a bad game and we can just chill? What’s that? No?

5. George Hill turns back the clock

On the list of things no one expected to happen in May 2019, journeyman point guard put up 21 points on 9-12 shooting from the field to lead the Bucks to a huge Game 3 win on the road. Totally normal business, exactly the guy we thought would go off. Nothing to see here.

6. Rodney Hood hands Portland a thriller

In a weekend filled with unexpected heroes, perhaps the least likely of all was Hood, who didn’t play much of the first three overtimes of Saturday’s 140-137 four-OT thriller. That rest mattered not when he checked in during the fourth set of five extra minutes, as he not only got cooking right away but finished the game with a clutch three off a CJ McCollum assist.

7. Sammy Blais’ first playoff goal

It wasn’t much of a competition in Game 6 between the Blues and Stars, but Blais scored his first playoff goal on a flashy breakaway opportunity in the third period.

8. Higuain chips it in

Riding high in third place, Chelsea had little reason to worry heading into their Sunday match against Watford. Their star, Gonzalo Higuain, made sure of that with a nice little chip shot to put the game out of reach.

9. Jamal Murray goes off for 34

There are few young players in the NBA capable of lighting up the scoreboard like Jamal Murray. When he’s feeling his floaters and pull-up 3s, he can score with the best in the league. That’s the version of Murray that Denver got Sunday night, and they were able to even the series at 2-2 thanks to his scoring explosion.

10. Kawhi Leonard says “Remember me?”

There are hardly any players in the NBA who can do what Leonard does, controlling the game and dictating outcomes on both ends. He can get to his spot regardless of what the defense shows him, and on the other end, he’s able to mostly stamp out the first couple options for the opposing offense. What a treat to watch him fully healthy and at the peak of his powers again — check out the timing and skill involved to make this dagger 3.
