The 2019 Met Gala is tonight and everyone will be waiting to see what MVP Rihanna brings to the camp theme.

Brace yourself for disappointment, fans of fashion, glamour and Rihanna. The Met Gala MVP is still not yet confirmed to be attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most glamorous night. (We’ll update this post once we can confirm either way.)

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala, is a fundraising night celebrating the opening of a new fashion exhibit at the museum. Each year, the gala has a theme — which dictates a dress code — tied to the exhibit. This year, the exhibition is “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and theme is, fittingly, “camp.”

Rihanna is beloved as an attendee, in large part due to her dedication to the theme and its meaning. Fashion devotees are already concerned about celebrities ability or willingness to be true to “camp” so her absence would be sorely missed. On the other hand, if she does attend, she’s absolutely on the short-list for safe bets to win best dressed of the night.

Per Elle:

"The New York Times reports the theme in inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on ‘Camp’, which is widely believed to have brought the idea of ‘camp’ to the mainstream. ‘The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration,’ Sontag once explained in Partisan Review."

The Met Gala is hosted the first Monday in May — you may remember the documentary of the same name — and in 2019, that means Monday, May 6, with arrivals on the red carpet starting at 5 p.m. ET. The dinner is not televised, but E! broadcasts the red carpet and social media covers the event with such aggression you might as well be watching a live stream.

No doubt if Rihanna arrives, you’ll hear about in a New York minute.
