A weekly recap of the hit YouTube series Being the Elite, featuring the stars of AEW including the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Cody and more.

Being the Elite opens up this week with a very disturbing image of Michael Nakazawa oiling himself down in baby oil. Even more disturbing, it turned out to be a dream (or was it a nightmare?) of Matt Jackson’s, who cursed Nakazawa’s name to start the show. We really hope Matt makes Nakazawa eat a superkick sooner rather than later so we can move on from this.

After the 8-bit opening intro we go to Cody is in his living room reading his new children’s book and turning around and showing whoever is in the room with him the pictures on each page. The cameras finally pan out and it’s none other than Penelope Ford who has to remind Cody that she’s an adult and asks where Brandi is before leaving. Cody sits there not looking pleased.

Next, they have a Joey Ryan montage of him visiting Disneyland. It’s obvious to us that anyone who thinks he’s going to be signing with WWE is very much mistaken. Apparently he was looking for his blonde friend who used to always have his back (Candice LeRae), but unfortunately, she wasn’t there.

They then cut to the pool area outside of Cody’s house with Brandi, Britt Baker and Ford. Brandi is saying how much she needed a day like this and Ford suggests they should take some shots so she goes to get the alcohol, leaving Baker alone with Brandi. Brandi tells Baker that she’s certain she will win at Double or Nothing and she has nothing to worry about before excusing herself to go help Ford, pretty much telegraphing (in our opinion) that Baker won’t be winning her match against Kylie Rae and Nyla Rose now. For Brandi to say that weeks before the show was pretty puzzling, but we will see where this goes.

After that, the show cuts to Sammy Guevara visiting Pakistan. A group of people claps for him while he greets them all and tells them how happy he is to be there. He says he has to get ready to perform and as he leaves one of the onlookers casually says, “I hate that guy!” Matt is watching this on the treadmill and finally admits that maybe Nick is right, and he feels bad for Sammy G.

Back at the pool area at some kind of bar set-up, Brandi asks Baker or Ford if either of them can do a shooting star press and they both say no. She says she can’t do one either but wants to, but she knows someone who certainly can’t do it, and that’s Allie. Baker says that she likes Allie but the two disagree with her. Ford wants to know what “a Demon Bunny” is supposed to be. Brandi agrees and proposes a toast to the Demon Bunny but when they go to drink there is nothing in the shot glasses. Baker questions why and Brandi gets defensive, because she’s on a diet, and she storms off.

They then take us to Kenny Omega’s home in Winnipeg where he and Cody decided in an earlier episode to make Leva Bates the Librarian. They are watching footage of an old Omega match, which looks to be a mixed tag of some sort, as Omega comments on how much fun those days were and that he misses it. He asks Cody what he thinks of Bates and she says she’s great but that wasn’t good enough for Omega and made Cody say she was elite. Omega said he was going to call Bates.

But before he does they take us to Hangman Page returning home from his jog. He looks exhausted and checks his wrist that doesn’t have a watch on it and announces that he ran 17 miles. Somehow we doubt that. There is an open package waiting for him on his doorstep and he wonders if it’s the samples from Omega. But it turns out to be a letter from PAC. PAC calls him “Twigman Page” and tells him that while he is sticking to his diet if he wants to be full gear ready in time for Double or Nothing he’s gonna need some juice.

Page reaches into the package and pulls out the bottle of “Michael’s Secret Stuff” from the 90s movie Space Jam. If that’s all it is, luckily for Page it’s just water. Page says he refuses to drink it and puts it down and walks away but quickly comes back and chugs it. He seems to hulk out at this point, as he tears his shirt and the video immediately cuts away so we don’t get to see if Page is truly full gear ready or not.

Instead, we go to AEW referee Bryce Remsberg, who announces the rules to the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing (formally the Over the Budget Battle Royale). The match will contain 21 participants (very close to our prediction of 20) but given the show is in Vegas, 21 makes sense. The match will start with five men in the ring, every three minutes another five men will enter and entry 21 comes in last. Easy enough to understand and remember. We will see if this match can capture the fun that the original battle royal had at All In in Chicago.

Afterward, we have SCU cutting a promo on their opponents, the Strong Hearts, from Oriental Wrestling Entertainment. It was a solid promo and worth a watch. This match certainly has the potential to steal the show on in a few weeks in Las Vegas at Double or Nothing.

We then go to the Young Bucks at HD Comics in California, who are running a pro wrestling show in their parking lot. The Bucks decide they want to use the ring to try to work off any remaining ring rust they have going into Double or Nothing and put on a little exhibition for all the people there to see. They work on some basics and get better as they go, yet make mistakes along the way as if to show they truly have ring rust — which we really don’t believe.

Brandon Cutler is there filming footage for them with his cell phone and he misses a crazy double-team maneuver that he puts over pretty hard and they tease breaking out whatever move it was at Double or Nothing, so that is quite the tease. We’ve seen a lot from the Bucks over the years so it will be surprising to see what they come up with for the Lucha Bros.

They cut to footage from Friday at Southern Honor Wrestling in Georgia that had surprise appearances from both Chris Jericho and Omega. This was pretty crazy to see and certainly helps hype up their main event match in a few weeks at the MGM Grand. It’s cool to see AEW talent still randomly popping up at independent shows across the United States.

At the end of the episode, we are taken to the Young Bucks sitting in their car talking about how good it felt to get in the ring again. They get a text message from Omega which they have their car read out loud. He tells them he’s sorry he’s been unavailable lately and talks about the segment with Jericho from earlier, he then goes on to talk about FyterFest and the hip hop artist that’s with him to scout the location, which infuriates the Bucks as they just wish Omega would watch the rest of the documentary. As Matt rants about the credit card bill, Nick gets an email entitled “ransom note.”

Matt thinks its just junk mail, but they load up the video and its two men with their voices disguised and their picture pixelated but it’s pretty clear from the get-go that it’s the Best Friends, Trent Beretta, and Chuck Taylor. They demand that the Best Friends need to be out of the Battle Royale and on the main show in tag team action. The Bucks roll their eyes as clearly they know who this is, too. Taylor threatens that if it doesn’t happen, they will kill their family.

Beretta, however, immediately interjects telling Taylor that they can’t do that. They end up getting in an argument and have a pushing battle which actually takes them out of the pixelated part of the screen, completely confirming who the “mystery men” are. They makeup quickly, however, and hug. After the video, the Bucks are shaking their heads as Cutler is revealed to be in the backseat. Cutler claims that he knows who the two are in the video, which causes the Bucks to roll their eyes even more as the show comes to an end.

That was it for this week’s edition of Being the Elite. Reaching episode 150 is certainly a major milestone for the Being the Elite crew and not something that can easily be done given everyone’s schedules and responsibilities.

Next. AEW Double or Nothing: What we know so far. dark

The show is truly a labor of love to the fans and even though not every show or every segment is a hit, it’s still the thought counts and the show is entertaining more often than not.
