1. Ezekiel Ansah

It’s not a shock that another edge rushing candidate tops the list of free agents the Jets should pursue, and Ezekiel Ansah certainly fits that bill. Ziggy has been extremely productive when he takes the field, but his injury history is a big reason why Ansah is still unemployed.

Ansah hasn’t played a full season since 2015, when he racked up 14.5 sacks for the Lions, but he is just two years removed from a 12 sack campaign in 14 games. Injuries took a toll on Ansah last year, who played only seven games and is reportedly dealing with a shoulder issue.

Reports indicate that Ansah should be ready about midway through training camp, and the 29 year old could probably be had on a one-year, prove-it deal. The Eagles, Ravens, and Seahawks have already been teams linked to Ansah, whose market should pick up when signings don’t count against the compensatory pick formula beginning tomorrow.

This is the type of signing the Jets should be all over. Ansah is the one defender on the market with the potential to be a huge difference maker as a pass rusher, and his addition could help unlock Gregg Williams’ full defensive scheme.

The Jets certainly have enough cap space left to explore the right one-year deals, and Ansah certainly fits the bill.
