Fantasy Baseball 2019 May 9: Luke Weaver and Other Streamers
By Bill Pivetz
Finding a streaming option for your fantasy baseball team becomes more difficult than usual for the May 9 slate.
There are only 10 games for the May 9 slate of games. This takes out 10 starting pitchers from your choice of streaming options. Luckily, there are still a couple of options you can add to your fantasy baseball team to get a small boost to your team’s stats.
The three pitchers I have listed are owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN leagues. This gives you a good chance to land at least one of them for their favorable start. With a lot of teams tanking or at least not being competitive, there are a few offenses you can take advantage of.
Not on purpose but all three pitchers make their start at home. Being at home helps the pitcher as they are in a familiar setting. The crowd is (usually) behind them as well, giving them loads of confidence.
Luke Weaver, vs. ATL
Weaver bounced back from his 4.1 innings, three-run start with seven one-run innings with eight strikeouts against the Rockies. He now takes that momentum into his next start against the Braves.

While the Braves have some top bats, Ronald Acuna and Freddie Freeman to name a couple, the team as a whole is hitting .231 with 29 runs scored over the last seven days.
Weaver may not go deep into games but the Diamondbacks offense is heating up and could get a win and quality start.
Ryan Carpenter, vs. LAA
The Tigers are calling up Carpenter to take Tyson Ross‘s spot in the rotation. He appeared in six games last season, five starts, and posted a 7.25 ERA, 1.701 WHIP, 15 strikeouts, four walks and eight home runs.
In six Triple-A starts this season, he has a 4.09 ERA, 1.182 WHIP, 27:11 K:BB ratio and four homers allowed. The Angels, outside of Mike Trout, are not hitting for much contact or power. They have a .247 with six home runs over the last week.
Carpenter is a good buy-low option for both season-long and DFS players.
Wade Miley, vs. TEX
Miley has posted a quality start in three of his last four games. Though, he is giving up a couple of runs in each start. If you can take a small hit to your ERA, then you can take on Miley.
His strikeout totals have dropped over the last two starts. Miley is relying on soft contact to get opposing batters out. Texas isn’t striking out in recent games, 43 total, 26th in the league.
On the bright side for Miley, they have a .207 average in that span.
Honorable Mention: Chris Bassitt, vs. CIN
There weren’t many starting pitcher options that fit my criteria for a streamer. These three have the best matchup and probability for a win and quality start. Both Weaver and Miley should be owned in more leagues, especially with the top names struggling after the first month.
