The Rockets have evened their series with the Warriors at two games apiece, proving they play Golden State as well as anyone. Can they keep control with a Game 5 win?

After losing two tough games to open the series, the Rockets looked like they might be heading for an early exit. Instead, they kept grinding and won their two home games to even the series and keep the pressure on Golden State.

One of the biggest adjustments for Houston over the last two games was crashing the glass and leveraging their advantage inside. In Games 1 and 2, they managed just 13 offensive rebounds and were  -16 on the glass overall. In Games 3 and 4, they had 30 offensive rebounds and a +27 rebounding margin against the Warriors. P.J. Tucker’s brutish relentlessness was particularly important but they also got a nice lift from Eric Gordon in the scoring column. He wasn’t particularly effective from the outside but added 50 points, attacking closeouts and giving Houston’s offense a pressure release valve when the Warriors threw everything at James Harden to get the ball out of his hands.

Golden State has been elevated by Kevin Durant but they’ll need more from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to get back on top of the Rockets. That pair is a combined 20-of-72 (27.8 percent) on 3-pointers in the series and have repeatedly whiffed on their opportunities to stop Rockets’ runs with big shots.
