WWE NXT UK Preview May 8, 2019: Watch online

Here’s what we know ahead of the May 8, 2019 edition of NXT UK, coming to you from Glasgow, Scotland.

We did it! We’re finally free of the Axxess time loop. May WrestleMania 35 weekend haunt neither us nor NXT UK ever again.

Now, the brand can truly move forward, with the first of a series of shows taped a few weeks ago at Braehead Arena in Glasgow. Only one match has been formally announced, but it’s a marquee one that is weeks in the making. Let’s have a look.

In your main event, Kenny Williams and Amir Jordan finally get their NXT UK Tag Team Championship match against Grizzled Young Veterans. Williams and Jordan seem like a thrown together tag team, but the duo have been on a serious roll these last couple of months. You could even say they’ve been streaking. With a series of wins over progressively more challenging opponents, Williams and Jordan finally got into the ring with the champs for a non-title match on the April 17 episode of NXT UK. And they won. By count-out.

The thing to understand about the champs, Grizzled Young Veterans — Zack Gibson and James Drake — is that they’re, in a word, jerks. Gibson is always yelling on and on about how he and Drake are “respected locker room leaders” and that the NXT UK tag titles are going to be recognized as the most important championships in all of WWE. But, the reality is that no one respects these guys.

Crowds call James Drake “arse face” because he — and this is quite literal — puts a picture of his own face on the arse of his trunks. At Gibson, they chant, “If you hate Gibson, shoes off.” That makes about as close to zero sense as a chant can, but damned if you’re not going to take your shoes off to mess with Zack Gibson. They whine and complain about how no one is on their level or deserving of a title shot, especially when it comes to Williams and Jordan. But, when actually challenged by Williams and Jordan a few weeks ago, when it became clear their challengers were no fluke team, they intentionally got themselves counted out.

Now, titles on the line, the stakes have decidedly been raised. In front of a hometown crowd for Williams, Grizzled Young Veterans better make sure that they are up to the standards of their challengers. If Williams and Jordan actually do become the champs, maybe the former will finally bust out some dance moves.
