Fantasy Baseball 2019 May 12: Lucas Giolito and Other Streaming Options
By Bill Pivetz
Which starting pitchers should you take a risk as streaming options for your fantasy baseball team?
Week 6 of the fantasy baseball season is almost over. But, with one day left, you have a shot to win your weekly matchup or earn a couple more points. If you need help with starting pitching, there are a few options with good matchups on Sunday.
As usual, the pitchers listed will be available in over 70 percent of ESPN leagues. There’s a reason why they are available but that’s not for you to figure out. You want these pitchers based on their potential to earn a win or quality start, rack up a few strikeouts or manage the ratios.
Some of these pitchers have had bad performances earlier in the year which may steer you away from using them. However, you’re not picking them up for those numbers. You’re adding them for what they can do in their next start.

So, what pitchers should you look at as a streaming option?
Lucas Giolito, @TOR
Giolito had a good start in his last game, pitching 7.1 shutout innings against the Indians. Now, he gets the Blue Jays.
Even Vlad Guerrero Jr. can’t help this offense. They are hitting .171 over their last seven games and .220 on the season. They are 25th in home runs and 26th in runs scored.
Giolito has allowed a few hits and walks in games but the Blue Jays don’t seem to be getting on base and won’t score runs as a result.
Tyler Mahle, @SF
Mahle is in the same boat as Giolito. He’s given up a good amount of hits in games but the upcoming matchup against the Giants should help him settle down.
The Giants are hitting .221 with 35 home runs and 147 runs scored this season. There isn’t anyone in the Giants lineup that scares me as a threat to plate some runs.
Mahle is 0-5 this season but has two quality starts this season. The Reds can put up runs but hitting in Oracle Park may stifle scoring, which helps both pitchers.
Aaron Sanchez, vs. CWS
Sanchez recorded a quality start and a loss against the Twins in his last game. He’s walking almost a batter per two innings, 25 in 42.0 innings.
The White Sox have a .319 on-base percentage and are 24th in walks. They aren’t hitting for power either. No batter has reached 10 home runs yet. There are 24 batters that have reached that mark already.
Sanchez has received little run support, as I mentioned in the Giolito section. This could be a low-scoring game. Or high-scoring if both pitchers struggle early.
There aren’t that many other teams that I’d stream against, especially after this week of games. While they may not win many games, the Orioles lineup is pretty good. San Diego and Oakland can crush home runs. Miami definitely would have made it but they get to face Noah Syndergaard in this slate, so no streamer there.
