Draftkings League of Legends: An Introduction

Welcome! Welcome everyone! This is the first article to start out our journey of becoming even more degenerate and playing League of Legends on Draftkings! Why not? This article will break down everything you need to know about League of Legends and how the contests work on Draftkings as it’s similar to showdown slates but it’s for one of ESports most popular games.

On Draftkings, most of League of Legends contests hold about 2 to 4 matches on each “slate”. They’ll break them down between MSI1 or MSI2 (Mid-Season Invitiational). They do that just due to the times that these matches start throughout the morning and afternoon, or they would have just do an all day contest which at the time for Draftkings, isn’t going to work. Why? Well Draftkings does the showdown format for League of Legends and doing that with an all day contest, it would cause too many issues and complaints from users.

Now lets get into the points system and how it works for your line-up build and then we’ll move on to line building strategy.

Captain: Like all showdown slates, we have the Captain position which earn 1.5x fantasy point values.

Kills: +3 Points | Assist: +2 Points | Death: -1 Points | Creep Score: +0.2 Points | 10+ K/A Bonus: +2 Points ( 10 Kills or 10 Assists in A Single Game)

Teams: You also pick a team to put in your lineup, so here’s the point break down for them:

Turrets: +1 Point | Dragons: +2 Points | Baron: +3 Points | First Blood: +2 Points | Win: +2 Points | Win Under 30 Minutes Bonus: +2 Points

Now that we have the scoring breakdown out of the way, lets dive in to the overview of how the game is played so you have a better understanding of it.

Draftkings League of Legends – The Breakdown

The goal in League of Legends is to knock down your opponents towers and destroying their Nexus. There are different lanes that players play in as different champions. You have top lane, mid lane, bottom lane which has two players in on both teams, one being a support, the other known as the ADC and then you also have a jungler who bounces throughout the map. You merge items and weapons together to make your champion stronger which can give you the upper hand in battles.

While the battle is going on, you can use your team to attack the different elements of a dragon called “Drake” to gain team boosts. There is also a Rift Herald which is the ultimate dragon to take down which gives your team an incredible boost plus the small minions or you can just call them minions from Despicable Me that are dressed up.

Each champion that a professional player chooses are classified by tanks, fighters, slayers, mages, controllers, and marksmens. Each class has sub-classes also which are the following:

Tanks: Vanguards and Wardens – Vanguards are offensive tanks who carry the team while Wardens are defensive tanks that basically protect their team and hold the fort down.

Fighters: Juggernauts and Divers – Juggernauts are the junglers who look to hunt down the opposition. Divers going after the opposite teams top attacker to stop them.

Slayers: Assassins and Skirmishers – Assassins go after the opposition while doing it silently or out of sight or even quicker. Skirmishers go directly after whoever and whenever they can on the opposition.

Mages: Burst, Battles, and Artillery – Burst mages go after any vulnerable target but struggle against beefier targets. Battle mages go to wreck havoc on the entire opposite team. Artillery mages play by range and are weaker to close in range.

Controllers: Enchanters and Disruptor – Enchanters defend their allies and then also help make them better. Disruptor make battles between the teams more intense and try to make the opposition look more foolish and cause havoc between them.

Marksmen: Marksmen – Marksmen play from a range also while playing on the line of danger at the same time. The need more powerful items that get bought for the champion to be more of a danger for their team.

Now that we have the game broken down, lets dive in to the strategy of playing on Draftkings!

Draftkings League of Legends – The Strategy

As I’ve mentioned with the League of Legends slates, they are formatted like a showdown so that leaves the Captain spot which earns 1.5x points. So with that position you want to target the players who play as either Jungler or ADC. The Jungler stays in the “jungle” areas and levels up by attacking the “monsters” in there bouncing back and fourth between the blue and red areas. Then after reaching level 5, and usually quicker then most players in the match, they start “ganking” or jumping into other lanes and attacking opposing champions.

The ADC champion is usually on the bottom lane with the support champion, who protects the ADC and helps them level up, but becomes powerful almost as quick as the jungler. Both, the ADC and the Jungler, are usually the two who have the most kills and even assists throughout the game. Therefore you should have either one as the Captain.

So with your captain being your ADC or Jungler, you still have the opportunity of picking the next best in line for ADC and Jungler again as your lineup will be: Captain, Top, Jungler, MID, ADC, Sup, and Team.

MID is a position you can actually look to save salary because they usually play one at one of the slower rates. They can still do damage in the kill and assist department but don’t go too happy spending on that position. Now with the Support position, you can look to target the mid range price or even top tier if a professional player is on the slate and is rated pretty high.

Finally is the team spot in the line-up and is one that you should look at the team match-ups and even betting odds like we do in other sports. If there is a team that has great odds to win, we can target them due to the win in 30 minute bonus but also due to all the points a team can earn. Tower domination is a huge advantage also, there are a total of 11 turrets on the map. A nice 11 point bonus for some teams.

So overall, target the ADC and Junglers when building your lineups as they can surely dominate the matches and take you to the promise land. Also do not overlook the support player as the assists can surely add up also.
