Seattle Mariners: Rally Fries

One of the funnest rituals in baseball history happened by mistake, as it took someone dropping a tray of french fries trying to catch a fly ball to get this one started. Back in 2007, during a Seattle Mariners vs. Cincinnati Reds game, a Mariners fan, John Sarkie, dropped his fries.

This caught the attention of announcer Mike Blowers, and he had an intern send Sarkie a new tray of fries. The man got his fries, and the Mariners staged a comeback, beating the Reds by the score of 3-2 after the exchange. The following day, the Rally Fries would strike again.

Blowers picked out a fan to give the free fries, and the Mariners went to to score five runs and win that game by the score of 9-4. The legend of the Rally Fries was born and it lasted for four more years, as the team gave a lucky fan a tray of french fries at all home games.

The Rally Fries died off during the Mariners’ terrible 2010 season, but they reappeared during the 2011 season, however for one year only. By 2012, the Rally Fries had reached their demise, but fans of the Mariners remember this ritual well, and believe it caused the team to win games during the late 2000s.
