Cincinnati Reds: Opening Day

The Cincinnati Reds were the team to beat in Major League Baseball during the 1970s, winning four National League pennants and back-to-back World Series in 1975 and 1976. The “Big Red Machine” produced legendary players like Pete Rose, Joe Morgan and Johnny Bench.

In fact, the Cincinnati Reds were the first professional baseball team in history, and in 2019 they are marking their 150-year anniversary. They have had some incredible players during that time, and some legendary teams and when it comes to the Major League Baseball season, the Reds always get the party started.

The Reds have become the team that usually plays the first game of the Major League Baseball season. This is a tradition that dates back years, but in 2019, the Reds actually did not play in the first game of the season, with the MLB season opening up in Japan with the Seattle Mariners taking on the Oakland Athletics.

Still, Major League Baseball has some great traditions, and the Reds being the first team to (usually) play on Opening Day is one that makes a lot of sense. They were the first team in professional baseball history and they boast one of the richest histories in baseball.
