Nick Senzel INF/OF Cincinnati

Senzel is a top prospect in the Reds minor league chain that just got called up this week. Since being called up Senzel has hit at the top of the Reds order and the team is committed enough to him that they dumped veteran OF Matt Kemp. He is a natural infielder who started getting time in the outfield to make him more versatile. While he might not claim a full-time starting job just yet — especially once Scooter Gennett comes back from injury — Senzel’s versatility might let him get semi-regular at bats for the rest of the season. As long as he is hitting at the top of the order, he holds good value.

Keston Hiura 2B Milwaukee

Hiura is a former first-round pick out of UC Irvine, and while Hiura has always been able to hit the ball to all fields, the original question was where to play him. Some thought he would play in the outfield but the Brewers seem content on keeping him at 2B once he gets called up. Hiura is pushing to be called up sooner rather than later as he’s hitting .333 11 HR 25 RBI in his first 36 games at Triple A San Antonio. The more Travis Shaw continues to struggle with the Brewers, the faster Hiura could get that call.

Corbin Martin SP Houston

Maybe I’m sipping some Martin Kool Aid here after watching him pitch on Sunday, but Martin looked to have great stuff. His fastball topped out at 97 and mainly located it on the edges of the plate. He also has a tight sharp breaking slider and a changeup that really fades away from left handed hitters. He also had excellent numbers in the minors, although scouting stats is not always the best course of action. I don’t know what the Astros have planned for the former 2nd round pick out of Texas A&M, but from what I saw on Sunday, his stuff can play in the big leagues in any role.
