Less than a week after entering the transfer portal, former four-star Florida signee Chris Steele has announced he’s transferring to Oregon.
Oregon’s 2019 recruiting class ranked fifth in the nation but it got even stronger, more than three months after National Signing Day. Former Florida four-star signee, Chris Steele, has announced he’s transferring to Oregon, less than a week after announcing his intention to leave Florida.
Steele’s exit from Florida was reportedly due to his living situation with Jalon Jones who was accused by two of sexual battery. Steele requested he no longer room with the four-star quarterback recruit but Florida didn’t immediately grant his request.
Jones is also leaving Florida. Despite his leave, Steele and Florida were unable to reconcile their differences. This bodes poorly for Florida who comes out of this situation looking terribly and they could lose more recruits as a result.

As for Oregon, they get the Gators top recruit who might be eligible this year depending on his petition to the NCAA for immediate eligibility. Steele’s stance against sexual assault should bode well for his chances.
The 6-1, 187-pound cornerback was the No. 42 overall player, No. 5 cornerback and No. 6 recruit in the state of California, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He would have been the third-highest ranked recruit of the Ducks 2019 class, behind No. 2 overall Kayvon Thibodeaux and one spot below cornerback Mykael Wright.
Steele reunites with former high school teammate at St. John Bosco, Joshua Delgado, who was part of Oregon’s 2019 recruiting class as well.
Oregon is recruiting at a high level under head coach Mario Cristobal and the addition of Steele is the latest example of the attractiveness of the program.
Expect an announcement regarding Steele’s eligibility to come down from the NCAA in the coming weeks. A decision should be levied before Steele and his new teammates report for training camp in the summer.
